I love Portuguese reds and the Mimo Moutinho Portuguese wine The smooth palate is packed with juicy brambles, liquorice and smoky tarry notes, ideal to pair with a warming midweek supper of sausage and mash.
A personal favourite of mine, this red is perfect for those who want to get into red but don't know where to start. It pairs perfectly with a number of everyday dinners like Spag Bol, roast chicken and a good old BBQ. The perfect wine for any occasion - from everyday get-togethers to celebratory dinners.
This is a wonderfully approachable wine with notes of fresh black cherry, raspberry and cinnamon. Try its juicy flavours with a classic charcuterie board.
Boosted in structure from the Ripasso technique, this is a wine with plenty of spicy intensity – think cloves and plenty of sweet cherry with almond-like flourish. There’s a bit of scent here too, just a hint of rose in bloom and it’s great value for a red without being over the top on the booze. Perfect with burgers or a cheeseboard.

Made by Ken Forrester, famous for his Chenin Blancs, this saw the grapes hand harvested, and fermented on wild yeasts. The grapes were partially de-stemmed with partial whole-bunch fermentation. This is all about bright, vibrant and juicy fruit. Red berries, even a hint of rhubarb, pure and easy drinking with a natural sweetness of fruit (but barely any residual sugar), and modest alcohol. Serve slightly chilled.

Along with the 2014 New Zealand Riesling there's this delicious off-dry example from Henry of Pelham (one of few Canadian wines in UK supermarkets, especially at this price). It's certainly off-dry, but not cloying, as racy lemon acidity cuts through the ripe, sweet nectarine flavours.
Fresh, fruity, tropical notes, very dry. Strong contender for a midweek wine, this is so lemony, vibrant and delightfully easy drinking.

Vinho Verde is in the far north of Portugal, a cool area with tempering Atlantic breezes and frequent rainfall. This unique climate retains acidity in grapes, giving this wine its bright, crisp finish. Expect aromas of white pepper, green apple and citrus fruit. This light, crisp wine is grown around the Bassin de Thau, an ideal location as locals say Picpoul vines need to "have their heads in the wind and their feet in the sea". With citrus and lime flavours this refreshing white is best enjoyed with oysters and seafood. Crisp & dry
